Preparing For Your Pageant (Pageant Prep)

You picked your system, and you know the date of the pageant, now it is time to figure out what you will actually do for the pageant. This process is called Pageant Prep, and believe it or not, it is the biggest behind-the-scenes work that you will go through for your entire drag career. Here are some of my biggest tips when it comes to preparing for a pageant.

Budget and Stick to It:

It is not secret that running for a pageant is not cheap. There is expenses that you never would image. From gowns, to hair, to jewelry, these things can add up in expenses really quick. So, in turn, you must budget.

By budgeting, I do not mean to go as cheap as possible, I mean for you to make sure that every other expense of yours is paid before you begin to start paying for your pageant.

Budgeting also means that you will know how much you have possible to spend for the pageant. For some, their budgets can be up to $4,000 for others, it can be up to $500. With this budget, you will be able to know for sure how much you will be spending on your pageant package, and you will know where you stand on the entire situation money wise.

Always have more than ONE plan:

We all have been in a situation where there will either be a best case, or a worst case. That goes for pageants as well. So when preparing for your pageant, always make sure you have more than one plan ready. I like to personally have four plans ready as a just in case in the first three do not work, and over time, I learned that sometimes the I would only need the first three, and the fourth was a good backup.

Start Writing It Down:

It is best to always make sure that all of your ideas are written down. This will not only help you remember your ideas, but will also help you keep track of how much money you are spending.

Give Yourself TIME To Prepare!:

Between sewing, stoning, practicing your talent, all of these will be very time consuming. Which also leads into this point. Give yourself the time to prepare! I was always taught to give myself at least 2-3 months to get things ready for the pageant, and I always recommend to people to not give any less than two months to prepare. This will insure that you will be able to get everything ready, and have the time to make sure that you know exactly what you will be doing.

Now that you picked your system, you know the date, you are now getting everything ready, now it is time to get on that stage!
